Nebius's deepening cash burn puts its financial health in doubt. Trailing free cash flow sank to about negative $5.9 billion by June 2026, even as trailing net income was positive $61.6 million. x.comÂ

Nebius's financing terms are atrocious, with converts that carry both a coupon and an increasing principal amount, effectively raising the yield. If the company succeeds, the converts will be highly dilutive; if it doesn't, it owes even more back in cash. Pairing a convert with a 7% coupon effectively hides that cost, and equity investors are ignoring it until it becomes a problem. x.com x.com x.comÂ
Nebius's recently signed higher-margin deals are predominantly with pre-revenue neolabs, making it aggressive to project a few small, short-term contracts' economics across all available capacity for years. Short-term economics are very attractive now, and Nebius management has better insight into demand, but assuming all these customers renew at similar or better terms indefinitely seems unrealistic. x.com x.com x.comÂ
CoreWeave's debt load and projected cash burn deepen neocloud financing risk relative to equipment suppliers. Per CNBC, $20.7B of debt matures through 2030 and negative free cash flow is projected to reach $10.1B in Q3, potentially requiring a $30B capital raise by 2027; credit default swap spreads are up 164% year over year. Further funding may depend on Nvidia's participation or improved credit conditions. x.comÂ
Nebius's revenue growth has sharply outpaced its stock, compressing its forward valuation to the lowest since its IPO. Quarterly revenue rose from $146M to $582M over a year while the stock gained about 50%; forward EV/revenue fell from 24x to 6.5x. x.comÂ
CoreWeave's heavy debt and negative free cash flow heighten the risk that neocloud contract growth will not fund expansion. It has $104.2B in backlog against $35.6B in debt and negative $5.74B quarterly free cash flow; Nebius has over $40B in contracts but $5.7B quarterly capex and customer-concentration risk. DigitalOcean's diversified cloud model reduces reliance on debt-funded GPU expansion, while TeraWulf avoids direct GPU depreciation but faces capital-intensive construction. x.comÂ
SpaceX's planned tenfold neocloud expansion and tightening financing could pressure Nebius. Musk says debt markets have nearly shut for companies without substantial non-AI-data-center revenue, implying consolidation among the 200-plus neoclouds. Nebius looks less appealing than SpaceX, and picking a battle with Elon is not attractive. x.com x.comÂ
Nebius's partly customer-funded buildout makes its financing structure preferable to CoreWeave's as borrowing risks rise. CoreWeave's unsecured bond yields have approached 15%, while hotter CPI raises the possibility of more Fed hikes. Nebius had about $8B cash at Q2, expects over $9B in 2026 customer prepayments and secured a $775M facility at SOFR + 2.50%. Its $20-25B capex plan, negative free cash flow, dilution and premium valuation still demand attractive returns after costs. x.com x.comÂ
Neoclouds may face a financing squeeze that extends their stock declines over the next few weeks. Elon Musk says debt markets have almost entirely shut off funding for companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers, and expects widespread neocloud failures and consolidation. Nebius, CoreWeave, IREN and Applied Digital are the stocks in question. x.comÂ
Temporarily constrained financing makes Nebius's buildout look very negative, with even completion of what it already has in question. CEO Arkady Volozh said some capital sources, such as debt and asset-backed financing, may be temporarily closed; customer advances and other instruments will probably fund at least this gigawatt. x.comÂ
Nebius's already-raised cash and expected customer prepayments should buffer its 2027 plans against a short-term debt-market freeze. Rising GPU rental prices could put new deals at $35m+/MW annually, up from last quarter's $20m-$25m, reducing estimated payback from 22 months to around a year. If Nebius deploys 1 GW next year at a one-year payback, equity value creation could be tremendous. x.comÂ
Nebius's debt is snowballing. Per @topsecretstocks, it proposed a $4.5B convertible note offering, $2.75B due 2030 and $1.75B due 2034 plus an option for about $675M more, to fund data center build-out, GPUs and growth. x.comÂ
