Synopsys is trading at its lowest valuation relative to Cadence in its recent history. It is up just 2% year to date, versus 32% for its closest peer. x.comÂ
Synopsys's OpenAI deal and investor day have blown up the bear case that frontier AI will disrupt chip-design software. When OpenAI has dominant leverage over a partner, as with Cerebras, it extracts big equity concessions; it did not with Synopsys. KeyBanc called the investor day perfectly executed, citing much better than expected initial FY27 guidance, higher long-term EDA and IP targets, margin expansion and new AWS and OpenAI partnerships, and raised its target while reiterating Overweight. … Show more
Synopsys looks expensive at $415.99, trading at 52 times cash earnings and 42 times next year's, against the roughly 30 times software companies usually get. That puts fair value at about $250.75 to $319.14, so buyers are paying about 30% over fair. The read is valuation levels only, based on reported earnings and revenue estimates, without fundamental work. x.comÂ
Synopsys's investor day directly undercut the bear case, so the tepid stock reaction is hard to explain. It smashed 2027 revenue growth estimates and raised long-term targets for both segments. Its OpenAI partnership to jointly develop a model could look like letting the fox into the henhouse, but it is a direct admission that AI cannot bypass Synopsys's IP-protected data moat, which was the core bear argument. x.comÂ
Synopsys merits Overweight and a $650 December 2026 target because EDA's near-permanent switching costs give a durable recurring floor, while emulation and AI-enhanced tools lift growth and margins. Synopsys, Cadence and Siemens EDA control most of the market, and switching toolchains costs engineering years. AI chip design drives emulation hours, and ML tools command a pricing premium. The target is about 40x $16.20 of earnings power exiting 2H CY26; China export controls are the key risk. … Show more
Arm's valuation carries an absurd premium for the architecture layer. It trades at 91.9x EV/sales, far above its historical range, as Wall Street prices it as the mandatory royalty tollbooth for every custom AI chip. EDA leaders Cadence, at 30.1x, and Synopsys, at 21.2x, trade near the low end of their historical bands, priced like mature utilities, as the market stacks almost all the scarcity premium into Arm. x.comÂ
Credo looks cheap against its earnings at about 17.5x next year's EPS, versus the roughly 38x chipmakers usually get. At 38x the $9.63 forecast EPS, give or take 12%, fair value is about $322-410, leaving the stock near $168 about 48% below the low end. The view leans heavily on forecasts, as forward EPS is 284% above trailing, and it is a valuation-levels read rather than fundamental work. x.comÂ
Cadence Design Systems looks cheap against its earnings at 34x, while software companies usually get 40x. Fair value runs $335.71 to $427.26, or 40x next year's $9.54 forecast EPS give or take 12%, and it turns expensive above $348.22. The valuation leans on that forecast, with forward earnings 65% above trailing. This is a levels-only read from reported earnings and revenue estimates, not fundamental work. x.comÂ
Kulicke and Soffa looks cheap against its cash earnings, about 28% below the low end of fair value at $99.09. It trades at 25x cash earnings and 15x next year's, while chip-equipment makers usually get 25x, putting fair value at $136.86-174.19. The view leans on forecasts, with forward earnings 54% above trailing. A pullback zone sits at $64.16, and it would be expensive above $148.51. x.comÂ
