Google's use of third-party compute amid its own supply constraints creates demand for neoclouds such as IREN, Nebius and CoreWeave. Google's CFO said usage started at the end of Q3 and will ramp in Q4; Google spent $51.4 billion on capex, more than double a year ago, and expects a significant increase in 2027. IREN and Nebius stand out because their contracts carry large prepayments. The opportunity favors operators that secure power, deliver capacity on time and serve customers profitably. … Show more
Contracts, operating rental revenue and access to capital should let five neoclouds survive consolidation as debt tightens. IREN combines customer contracts with $14B of cash, committed GPU financing and prepayments; Nebius has over $40B of commitments and a new $3.5B Citi facility. Cipher has begun HPC rent and funded Stingray; TeraWulf has a long Anthropic lease and cash; Applied Digital has $36B of contracted base-term leases and 250MW operational. Musk warns many other neoclouds may fail. … Show more
CoreWeave's heavy debt and negative free cash flow heighten the risk that neocloud contract growth will not fund expansion. It has $104.2B in backlog against $35.6B in debt and negative $5.74B quarterly free cash flow; Nebius has over $40B in contracts but $5.7B quarterly capex and customer-concentration risk. DigitalOcean's diversified cloud model reduces reliance on debt-funded GPU expansion, while TeraWulf avoids direct GPU depreciation but faces capital-intensive construction. x.com
Neoclouds can reprice higher only if financing constraints halt smaller rivals' buildouts, leaving CoreWeave and Nebius as survivors. CoreWeave CDS has seen its highs and its debt has repriced upward; a business that might fail in four years is different from one that must fail now. Ant's S-1 confirms that serving inference is extremely profitable. x.com
AI funding is easing as lower credit-insurance costs could reopen funding. CoreWeave CDS fell to ~1,040bp from above 1,100bp; Oracle says growth should fund itself from FY29. Google kept its $195–205B 2026 capex guide, expects more in 2027 and is renting third-party compute despite margin headwinds, supporting Nebius and CoreWeave pricing power. Microsoft’s Azure growth accelerated to 48%, while Meta and Microsoft credit spreads eased. A bigger rally needs further credit easing. x.com x.com … Show more
Slower neoclouds such as CoreWeave face an uphill battle against SpaceX's faster data-center buildout. Demand may be effectively unlimited, but falling a year or two behind creates a $5-10B cash cost disadvantage they may not survive. Some could still pull off a miracle; SpaceX itself competes as a neocloud and has no reason to buy firms that cannot build data centers. x.com x.com x.com
Nebius looks cheaper against a year of stronger execution, leaving room for its shares to rise. EV/current ARR fell from 57x to 14x as quarterly revenue rose from $105M to $582M and adjusted EBITDA moved from -$21M to +$236M. The 5GW figure is a year-end contracted-power target, not live capacity. Per Polymarket, Dutch government AI plans could favor Amsterdam-based Nebius. Delivery still needs capital and power; Nebius borrows at about half CoreWeave's cost and gets customer prepayments. x.com … Show more
Hyperscaler borrowing could raise Nebius and CoreWeave's financing costs as investors favor safer debt. Microsoft reportedly plans to borrow. Nebius has prepayments and cheaper funding; CoreWeave has more debt. Nebius is strongly preferred if credit tightens. If rates fall and CoreWeave turns its $104B backlog into revenue, EBITDA and cash flow, it could have significantly more upside. Google expects more third-party compute use in Q4; Microsoft cites delayed deliveries. x.com x.com x.com
Neoclouds may face a financing squeeze that extends their stock declines over the next few weeks. Elon Musk says debt markets have almost entirely shut off funding for companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers, and expects widespread neocloud failures and consolidation. Nebius, CoreWeave, IREN and Applied Digital are the stocks in question. x.com
Alphabet's surging AI capex is outpacing its payoff. Its first double earnings miss in four years came with free cash flow of -$9.1 billion versus -$2.7 billion expected, long-term debt up 479% in a year to $125.1 billion, and guidance for significantly higher 2027 capex above $300 billion. x.com x.com
