Fabrinet is the strategic bottleneck for 1.6T optical interconnects, as its proprietary 5-axis active alignment solves the sub-0.5-micron laser coupling these transceivers need. HPC revenue jumped to $86M in Q2 FY26 from $15M on 200G EML lasers for Nvidia networking. Its Thailand Building 10 expansion starts going live in July 2026, AWS and Google broaden the customer base, and it holds $961M cash with no net debt. Revenue rose 45% to $1.316B, but gross margin fell 30bps to 12.2%, the record operating margin came from low opex, and full-year free cash flow was just $4M on $4.64B of revenue. Datacom transceivers have been flat to down for four quarters, with growth from DCI and HPC. Fabrinet is levered to 3-to-10-year growth themes while being much less cyclical than pure optical transceiver makers. Its vectors include co-packaged optics, data-center interconnect, lidar and sensors for physical AI, and custom ASIC work, and the optical cycle likely has a 3-5 year runway left. Fabrinet is building capacity ahead of orders, so heavy customer concentration means one program pause could turn its inventory build into a writedown. Inventories rose 76% to $1.02B and property and equipment nearly doubled to $615.1M. Fabrinet has more exposure to Nvidia's ramp than any other public company: Nvidia is 35% of its business, and it is Nvidia's primary contract manufacturer of 1.6T optical modules, and possibly Cisco's too. SemiAnalysis estimates Nvidia's data center compute revenue will run 20% above consensus in 2H FY2027 as Rubin ramps now that earlier HBM4 issues are resolved. Rising 1.6T switching demand favors optical suppliers, though their execution risks vary. Bank of America says the market could grow ~101% annually through 2030. Marvell's leading DSPs and Lumentum's supply-short 200G EML lasers are lowest risk; Applied Optoelectronics' capacity expansion and Fabrinet's customer concentration make them medium risk. Aeluma remains pre-commercial, while Lightwave Logic's polymer modulators are a high-risk moonshot despite its TSM partnership. x.comÂ
Fabrinet's growth is driven by multiple live AI programs, not a single optical spike. At OFC 2026, management cited 2-3 years of demand visibility, called datacom softness supply-constrained, and named AWS, NVIDIA, Ciena, Cisco and Lumentum as key vectors. Datacom, DCI and HPC were about 45% of Q2 FY26 revenue of $1.13B, up 36%, with Q3 guided to roughly 35% growth. Fabrinet benefits as the optical ecosystem's assembly-and-test release valve, though it is not a single chokepoint. Coherent itself said assembly and test is not a constraint for it right now, so Fabrinet's case rests on the breadth of its ongoing programs rather than on scarcity, unlike AXT or Micron. x.comÂ
