The prospect of trillion-dollar revenue makes the bearish case for Amazon hard to accept. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says no business has reached that scale, but there may be two in the next 5–10 years. x.com 

Discount retailers are a built-in recession hedge because consumers trade down rather than stop spending. Walmart, Costco, TJX, and Dollar General should benefit as worsening economic conditions send more shoppers through their doors. x.com 

Consumer-facing stocks remain vulnerable as even middle and upper-middle income shoppers pull back. Dave & Buster's fell 15% on ongoing "entertainment weakness", dragging the sector including Texas Roadhouse. Walmart is arguably more exposed than its safe-haven history suggests, because its edge rests on competing with Amazon, and doing that clearly will require far more capital. Historically it has been a place to hide, but that does not mean owning or shorting it; it is simply a stock to avoid. x.com  x.com 

Dollar General may be in a turnaround the market is missing, with improving traffic, expanding margins and a stronger balance sheet. Similar signs showed up in Advance Auto Parts when Wall Street had largely given up on it, before its shares roughly doubled within 30 days. x.com

Target's EBITDA multiple should not keep expanding when the backdrop is hurting its business on net while comparable companies retrench. The multiple is nearing Amazon's, yet almost no one would plausibly own Target over Amazon for any real length of time.
