AI software and hardware advances make GPUs and power more valuable, creating huge long-term tailwinds for compute providers and AI model and app businesses. Each new software generation increases a GPU's value; each hardware generation increases the value of a gigawatt of power. That favors Nvidia, Broadcom, Intel and AppLovin. x.com 

Nvidia's AI profits are real, but its compute demand depends heavily on fragile venture funding. Per Chamath, 1% of firms account for 90% of AI spending, and 72 cents of each dollar comes from unprofitable VC-backed firms. Nvidia can raise prices 15% and still leave customers plenty of margin because Vera Rubin delivers 2-30x more throughput per megawatt than Blackwell Ultra, depending on interactivity. A megawatt of Vera Rubin racks should generate at least twice the revenue of Blackwell racks, and much more in some configurations. Nvidia's ballooning future commitments relative to its revenue evoke Enron. Per Gary Marcus, citing Fortune and Nvidia's 10-Q, second-quarter revenue was $96 billion while future commitments total $366 billion, led by $279 billion of supply and capacity commitments, up from $119 billion a quarter earlier, plus cloud service agreements, data-center leases, equity investments and capex commitments. x.com

Its filings show mostly memory and manufacturing commitments rising from $119 billion to $279 billion in one quarter, with about $175 billion covering 2027-28. Fewer new data-center projects could reflect power, land and building bottlenecks rather than weaker demand; a mid-teens multiple still reflects a fair worry that profits may not last. x.com 

Nvidia retains pricing power if its full system keeps reducing customers' cost per effective AI task. Strong AI demand alone does not ensure profits across the chain: rising chip, memory and optical costs burden buyers, while tighter financing and slow collections threaten operators. Large customers developing their own chips could pressure Nvidia's margins even as the market grows. x.com 

Nvidia and other accelerator makers now face a finite semiconductor profit pool and must fight their supply chains for incremental gross margin, pushing down dollars per GW after years of inflation. Economic surplus needs to move from silicon to users; otherwise the inflation from semis and backlash against data centers will lead rate markets and policy to end this trade. Nvidia's rising revenue alongside a much lower P/E is getting hard to ignore. Its chart shows quarterly revenue above $80 billion in Q2 2026 while the P/E is around 30x, down from much higher multiples in prior years. x.com
