Bloom Energy's fast on-site generation could earn a premium by shortening the wait for AI compute. Anthropic's S-1 says it may buy generation equipment above prevailing market rates if it can be deployed faster. Some planned Anthropic data centers rely on dedicated on-site gas generation, and it has committed to cover consumer power-price increases they cause. Bloom Energy's surge in parts commitments and customer deposits points to demand beyond this quarter. Its 10-Q shows $5.8B of non-cancelable purchase commitments beyond 12 months, up from $16M in June, including $2.6B for 2027; $475M in deposits backs deliveries more than a year out. Power is the deepest bottleneck in AI infrastructure, and Bloom Energy's fuel cells bypass it by generating electricity on site. North American grid interconnection queues stretch five to seven years, and Dell projects 200GW of new AI data center power needs by 2030. Bloom's solid oxide fuel cells run on natural gas or hydrogen, can be deployed in months and deliver over 99.999% reliable round-the-clock baseload power. Bloom Energy is monetizing time to power, one of AI's biggest bottlenecks. Behind-the-meter power lets data centers skip grid queues. Execution history and margins still matter, and the window lasts only while immediate power is scarce. Bloom Energy is a structural winner from AI data-center power shortages, but at $201 it is not cheap despite falling 42% from its high. It trades near 98x 2026 and 45x 2027 expected earnings after a 17-fold rise in two years, so the drop looks like an AI power premium normalizing. Q1 revenue grew 130% as margins and cash flow improved, but scandium supply and backlog-quality questions from Hunterbrook's short report remain open.
