It beat on revenue, margins and earnings and projects an even bigger 2027. Micron and NVIDIA trade at low forward P/Es because investors fear peak cyclical earnings, yet current earnings show no slowdown. NVIDIA, Broadcom, Micron and TSMC should be worth less because AI risk has risen while the expected reward has not. The CEOs of Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceX and Tesla have said AI risks killing all humans and needs to slow down, yet not a single analyst cut ratings or price targets on these chipmakers. A supply response could compress Western Digital's pricing and margins, eroding its apparent cheapness. Its 2013-24 normalized earnings merit a look: even huge demand growth in other industries eventually drew supply and mediocre returns. A digestion/reset would hurt buy-and-hold investors, though the outcome is uncertain. ASML says customers are raising short- and medium-term forecasts, some are interested in orders for 2029 or 2030, and its currently planned 2027-28 supply may not fully meet demand. Chinese memory makers YMTC and CXMT are using the AI-driven shortage to build a bigger competitive threat to Micron, Samsung and SK hynix. Per DigiTimes, both are scaling capacity with state backing to gain share; they are making inroads in PCs, and CXMT reportedly plans to ramp HBM3 later this year. The worst shortages ever seen have lifted prices only temporarily. Legacy DRAM makers face demand and supply pressure, and the market will eventually discount a far more competitive market. x.com
