Intel and AMD stand to benefit because serving AI agents takes huge CPU purchases on top of GPUs, on the order of 40 CPUs for every GPU bought. x.comÂ

AI compute demand is not going anywhere, so the latest AI scare is no reason to worry about Micron, Astera Labs, AMD, Sandisk and Intel. Anthropic has lined up compute deals that could cost up to $517B, far above the $180B it told investors it expected to spend through 2029, per The Information. OpenAI stopped selling its $200 Codex plan because demand is so high. Even if frontier labs slowed new model releases, demand for current models would stay huge. x.com x.com x.com x.comÂ
AMD could see much more accelerator demand as OpenAI and Anthropic allegedly increase their orders by multiple gigawatts. Nvidia's only real edge over AMD may soon be its size and resources; Lisa Su is a master operator. x.comÂ
Intel, AMD and Arm benefit because agentic AI needs far more CPUs per GPU. J.P. Morgan models the GPU-to-CPU ratio falling from 4.0x in 2024 to 1.9x by 2028, roughly doubling CPUs per GPU on top of growing GPU shipments, and that is the conservative view. TrendForce expects one or two GPUs per CPU in agentic deployments, and Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said some frontier labs cite four CPUs per GPU. Every orchestration step and agent sandbox runs on a CPU, and Meta gave every Muse user an always-on VM. … Show more
Intel and AMD face a real shift in competition as NVIDIA moves into CPUs faster and more directly than expected. On NVIDIA's earnings call, Jensen Huang said its new Vera CPU platform will contribute $20 billion of standalone revenue this year. The pressure on Intel and AMD is not just fund rotation but a genuine change in the competitive landscape. x.comÂ
On-the-ground data, including OCP rack vendors' reports of what they hear from customers, gives a clearer picture of AMD's CPU outlook. AMD's CPUs and GPUs are both in a growth cycle, leaving it on track to outgrow the market. The 14 million GPU figure through 2030 was always above the team's models, as it was for many others; the 2027 GPU sales estimate raised in the discussion was Morgan Stanley's, not theirs. x.com x.com x.com x.com x.comÂ
US sovereign AI and defense demand for domestically made compute will bring Intel most, if not all, US semiconductor designers as customers. PC weakness also lets Intel shift wafers to higher-margin server CPUs, but that takes a few quarters; capacity to ship more server CPUs is the limiter. The $240 billion 2030 server CPU market forecast is a stretch case, not the base case, versus roughly $200 billion consensus. x.com x.com x.com x.com x.comÂ
AMD is priced as if it is winning the ecosystem war when it is fighting uphill, which makes it unattractive. Its chips now compete, but Nvidia built CUDA and the tooling everyone runs on, and switching means rebuilding that foundation, which almost nobody wants to do. AMD's realistic opportunity is newer data centers without that foundation, which is what has been happening. Yet nearly every sell-side firm rates it a buy at about 50x forward earnings. x.comÂ
AI software and hardware advances make GPUs and power more valuable, creating huge long-term tailwinds for compute providers and AI model and app businesses. Each new software generation increases a GPU's value; each hardware generation increases the value of a gigawatt of power. That favors Nvidia, Broadcom, Intel and AppLovin. x.comÂ
Agentic AI demand should drive AMD's 2027 data-center growth well over 100% year on year. Server CPU revenue is forecast to double, with over 5 million Venice units shipping in 2027; Helios racks should ramp mostly in Q1 2027, with over 20,000 expected that year, while MI450/455X volume remains limited by end-2026. Projected 2027 sales are $103bn, with 2027 EPS revised up 15% and a new $720 target at 40x 2027 earnings. x.comÂ
Intel's capex raise, once seen as good news, is now a concern as Intel keeps burning cash while pushing toward nearly $100B of US capital investment this decade. AMD coming for its CPU business adds to the pressure. x.comÂ
AI agents shift compute demand toward CPUs and memory much faster than consensus models. The GPU-to-CPU ratio went from 4:1 on H100 to 2:1 on GB200 and GB300, and could reach 1:1 as agents add orchestration, API calls, security, sandboxes and long-running state. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince says one agent per US knowledge worker would use about half of global CPU capacity. AMD, Intel, Arm, Qualcomm and Cloudflare win directly, Nvidia still wins, and Micron gains from both HBM and CPU memory. … Show more
