Oil stays above $80 well past the midterms because the supply problem persists despite peace headlines. Ships are still attacked near Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the UAE; a reported US strike on Iran's Konarak Naval Base ended nearly seven weeks without US strikes. There is nobody in Iran who can sign a deal and end the conflict. x.comÂ
Crude oil is pricing one disrupted route, not Saudi Arabia running out of export routes, and $10 gasoline is coming. With Hormuz blocked since March, Saudi crude was rerouted through the East-West Pipeline to Yanbu. Drones struck it on September 10; satellite imagery suggests three pump stations were hit, with no restart date. Houthis appear to have struck Yanbu's 400,000 b/d YASREF refinery, and Yanbu handled 92% of Saudi seaborne exports in June. Oil's supply problem would outlast the US midterms, because four months is not long enough to restock without sending gasoline to $10.
