Protecting subsea infrastructure is the alpha, and Kraken Robotics is one of almost no pure plays on it. Recent US Navy unmanned-vehicle contracts are a big deal for Kraken Robotics that the market is ignoring. HII, a confirmed Kraken sonar customer, won a medium unmanned vessel award of 10 vessels at $40M each, and three of four finalists for the CAMP large underwater vehicle, including Anduril, have strong ties to Kraken. Undersea cables and scale-across are very bullish, though the two biggest builders, Alcatel and SubCom, are private. Public plays span the chain: fiber from Corning, Sumitomo and Furukawa, where subsea is a small share of revenue; cable supplier Prysmian, mostly a power-cable name; 980nm pump lasers, where Lumentum and Coherent hold a duopoly and Lumentum guided to 4x volume next year; onshore gear from Ciena, with 60% share ex-China, and Nokia; and integrator NEC. x.com
The real chokepoint in air defense is the sensor, not the interceptor: blind the detection layer and the kill chain breaks, as Iran showed in the Gulf. RF detection is going obsolete because fiber-optic and autonomous drones emit nothing, so passive infrared is the answer, with Golden Dome as the funded response. Kraken Robotics' new $35M of orders is huge news, and the stock still looks extremely cheap as a direct beneficiary of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, after falling well below its March all-time high.
