Arm is no longer just a royalty collector, a radical change in its business, and agentic AI demand for sold-out CPUs is amplifying the move. Arm-based CPUs could capture nearly 90% of host CPU deployments in custom AI ASIC servers by 2029, and Nvidia was expected to unveil a new Arm-based processor at Computex. Arm is shifting from secondary supplier to the core orchestration backbone of AI data centers. Agentic AI needs roughly four times as many CPU cores per gigawatt, part of a $100 billion CPU market Arm sees for 2026. Its new AGI CPU line has over $2 billion in secured demand, with Oracle Cloud and ByteDance joining, and Google will use Arm-based Axion CPUs in all next-gen TPU systems. Arm signaled confidence in securing supply allocations: CEO Rene Haas said Arm can secure enough supply to meet $2B of customer demand for its AGI CPU, and real demand is probably larger, with growth supply-constrained as usual. Arm's valuation carries an absurd premium for the architecture layer. It trades at 91.9x EV/sales, far above its historical range, as Wall Street prices it as the mandatory royalty tollbooth for every custom AI chip. EDA leaders Cadence, at 30.1x, and Synopsys, at 21.2x, trade near the low end of their historical bands, priced like mature utilities, as the market stacks almost all the scarcity premium into Arm. x.com 

Arm is no longer just an IP licensing story but is moving up the stack into finished silicon, and the market is finally starting to price that in. It is positioning itself as a broader compute platform for the agentic AI era, with much more value to capture if its server CPU push scales. x.com 

Arm's fundamentals remain extremely strong, but component shortages could cost it margin as it moves into manufacturing. It confirmed accelerating demand of up to $2B for its new AGI CPU, yet has components for only about 50% of it, so meeting demand may mean paying higher prices. Management expects CPU demand to rise about 4x by 2030, which means about 4x the component needs too. Arm is hard to justify over Nvidia, which is cheaper and growing faster. Arm trades at 44x sales and 112x earnings with 28% two-year sales growth and 32% EPS growth, while Nvidia trades at 11x sales and 20x earnings with 60%+ growth in both.
