Crude oil's last cushion is gone as recovering demand squeezes constrained Middle East supply. Barclays puts China imports near pre-war levels at 10.5m b/d, India up 600,000 b/d year on year and Middle East flows at 84% of pre-war levels; US demand is recovering. After more than 500m barrels of inventory were drawn down, buyers are paying a $13/bbl premium for next-week cargoes over the front-month contract, versus under $4 a week into the war. x.com 

Sustained high energy prices strain US farming, logistics, manufacturing and consumers, so crude oil should fall dramatically from its elevated level. Middle East and Russia tensions are lifting WTI, shown near $103, while Trump will likely step in at some point to reduce uncertainty. x.com  x.com 

Crude oil is only consolidating while historic Strategic Petroleum Reserve drawdowns buy Trump time to resolve the Iran war and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. If the war does not end by August, it is pretty obvious which way crude breaks. x.com 

Crude oil's 4 million-barrel-a-day global inventory draw despite weaker exports and refinery demand signals physical tightness. Chinese exports and refinery demand in Russia and China are each down a few million barrels a day, yet Brent is at a more than four-year high. Bessent says Persian Gulf exports exceed prewar levels, but cash and dated Brent trade well above front-month futures. WTI crude has not fallen enough, because its price is propped up by Brent longs rather than US fundamentals. WTI is based on US supply, which rose from 11 million to 13.5 million barrels a day over four years and is expected to hit 14.5 million, while US demand is trending down. x.com 

Crude oil has room to rise as Trump's war with Iran accelerates and both the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb are closed. The WTI target set at $67.50 was $83-85, with a $91 overshoot; getting and staying above $91 this time would spell deep trouble. Senior US officials say more than 60 refueling aircraft were sent to Israel ahead of Trump's expected escalation. x.com 

Refilling America's drained emergency oil reserve will create years of structural demand in a market with no slack. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is near 311 million barrels, its emptiest since 1983 and under half its 700-million-plus peak, after a 99-million-barrel release when the Strait of Hormuz closed in February. Fifteen years of underinvestment left no cushion, and the IEA says commercial inventories are depleting in weeks. With majors breaking a 15-year base, it is a supercycle. x.com 

The oil trade is over because crude can no longer make higher highs, even with Middle East crude exports back near their peaks. Oil is trading around its average price of the last eight months and set a lower high in September, so it is only a matter of time before the market gives up. Oil faces an explosive move up, likely into the midterms, as the supports holding prices down run out. Satellite images do not show the ships Axios's Barak Ravid claims are transiting Hormuz, and false reports of barrels have kept prices down so far. Most strategic reserve releases by the US and other countries are done and cannot be extended at current levels; when they run out, a big reason prices are contained goes with them. x.com
