Ether should lead the next leg because the recent decline was a mid-cycle bear, not a full-cycle bear. A full-cycle bear resets the market and is followed by a bitcoin-dominated recovery that takes years; a mid-cycle bear primes the market, with ETH/BTC trending up and altcoin dominance bottoming during the drop. New highs then take months, not years, in an ETH- and altcoin-led run that is already under way, with the bottom forming higher than before. x.com x.com
Ethereum is not dead; it simply has not reached the phase of the cycle where it outperforms. Crypto cycles follow the business cycle, not a four-year clock, and this one has had the longest business-cycle and copper/gold contraction, hence the longest consolidation for Ethereum and altcoins. We are still in the same cycle, and its price action matches the first half of past cycles. Many sit near support while selling pressure persists, so even a small selloff could trigger liquidations; a bounce is still possible, but the bottom is not convincing yet. Crypto assets should reprice upward as purchasing power falls and nearly everything else costs more. Tokenization is still in its earliest stage and should reward patient investment in projects positioned to capture it; an altcoin portfolio centered on Ethereum and value-accrual tokens, with some Robinhood and Arc exposure, should outperform nearly everything over six to twelve months. ETH's wealth effect on alts is huge, and Solana's market cap is still dwarfed by ETH's. A rising ETH/BTC is basically an inverted bitcoin-dominance chart, building pressure after a half-decade alt bear market; when it breaks, the pumps will be biblical. ETH and SOL will struggle to stage independent narrative-driven rallies because US stocks are siphoning capital, leaving even Bitcoin short of heat and new demand. For a risk-averse investor favoring certainty over high odds, BNB and HYPE are the only higher-certainty choices besides Bitcoin, and both have outperformed it in this bear market. Bitcoin's macro-risk ratios doubled the time spent declining, pointing to one longer cycle rather than two four-year cycles. The July 2026 low came 44 months in, with perhaps another 52 months for the larger cycle to complete; elevated bitcoin dominance, low altcoin dominance and subdued ETH/BTC echo 2016 and 2020.
