Hyperliquid's buybacks return value to HYPE holders as its trading business grows. Its 2025 token buybacks totaled $817.79 million, more than Robinhood's $653 million in stock repurchases. Traditional finance moving onchain could bring hundreds of trillions in digital assets and quadrillions in derivatives volume; even at today's price, HYPE still has 100x potential. x.com  x.com 

Lending tokens fall short of the sector's strong economics because team conduct and uneven holder returns undermine them. Lending capital is sticky and protocols have pricing power, but Aave rugged its DAO and Compound rugged. Morpho signaled no interest in buybacks; Kamino is silent. Maple's buybacks are small, about a tenth of revenue, and inconsistent. Spark buys back about half its revenue, but revenue is very inconsistent. The sector is great; these projects are not. x.com 

Hyperliquid is among the crypto projects proving that real revenue used for buybacks and burns drives the best long-term performance. Tokens without revenue, or whose buybacks do not offset emissions and unlocks, are inflationary assets relying on sentiment. Few new hyped token launches are crypto's most bullish feature, concentrating bids in good, fixed-supply tokens without VC scams that buy back supply. Unlike mega equity IPOs and a lack of hyperscaler buybacks, good crypto is structurally healthier than equities, with fewer headwinds and better risk/reward as tokenization stays a dominant theme for the next few years. PUMP is set to fall further despite Pump.fun's burn of about $370 million of bought-back tokens, roughly 36% of circulating supply. The team sold about $500 million worth onto holders and gave nothing to the community that built the platform. Hyperliquid, Aerodrome and Sky generate revenue and will be rerated as crypto returns to fundamentals, even as Bitcoin's price action is unnerving. Pendle's growing RWA yield markets could generate trading fees that fund PENDLE buybacks. Its RWA stack is around $1.3B, with Coinbase tokenized equities and Franklin Templeton bond exposure expanding distribution. 80% of protocol fees fund open-market buybacks for sPENDLE holders, recently running ahead of new emissions. Memecoin launchpads such as Pump.fun face a race to zero, because rival Stonk is using its fees to pump its top tokens, a genuinely good idea others will copy. A launchpad's core product is tokens that go up, so winning comes down to who sacrifices more revenue to its ecosystem, compressing margins and lowering the valuation ceiling for the whole group. Hyperliquid is attractive because live protocols with oracle and liquidation risk can charge for ongoing risk management, giving them a potential moat. Easily copied protocols may see margins competed away.
