Vista Energy's technicals and fundamentals look solid, with a clear stage 2 uptrend above its 200-day moving average and earnings and revenue growing quarter over quarter and year over year. It has been disclosed as the largest holding in Peter Thiel's hedge fund. x.com
Low forward earnings multiples alongside strong investor sentiment put these S&P 500 stocks atop the smart-value ranking. APA, Viatris, EOG, Marathon Petroleum, Valero, Phillips 66, Allstate, Diamondback, Everest and Centene trade at 6-15x forward earnings after one-year gains of 17-150%; the accompanying ranking also weighs free-cash-flow yield and momentum. x.com
Argentina's country risk premium kept rising through the latest session, a backdrop for Argentine energy names YPF, Vista Energy, Tenaris and Pampa Energía, as discussed in an El Cronista article. x.com
US energy stocks are being steadily accumulated after a 17-year base, and that base will not resolve in a month. The sector broke out this year and pulled back on contracting volume, which is digestion, not distribution. Energy trades near 13x earnings versus about 20x for hyperscalers. Stocks now rise with oil and get bought back when oil falls. Tech is priced for the cost of capital to come down; energy for the reason it will not. x.com x.com x.com
TotalEnergies looks cheap against its earnings at 11x trailing and 8x next year's, while oil and gas producers usually get 14x. Applying 14x to mid-cycle EPS of $8.01 gives a fair range of $98.74 to $125.67 versus $90.94 now. Trailing and forward earnings differ by 34%, widening the range. This is a valuation read only, not fundamental work. x.com
Oil majors such as Shell, BP, ExxonMobil and Chevron deserve their multiples because they have consistently generated 10%+ returns across complete energy cycles. They are integrated, now diversified, and control a key commodity for decades ahead. Investors will do fine if they hold for the long term. x.com
Occidental Petroleum is mispriced at about 8.4x trailing earnings and an 8.7% free cash flow yield during an oil shock. Eight times earnings in an oil shock is not a valuation but a clerical error with a ticker symbol. Iran cannot beat the US Navy, so it is waiting out America's vote in 49 days, since Iran does not vote until 2028; owning Occidental beats hiding in Treasuries. x.com
US energy stocks are mispriced by extrapolation bias, priced for a world that has already changed. In Q1 2026, tech and communication services posted 50%+ earnings growth while energy printed -4%, the only sector FactSet flagged for a downward revision. Ex those two sectors, S&P 500 growth was 9.3%. The 10 largest energy stocks carry a 36-month beta of 0.0003 and an 8% free-cash-flow yield on trailing $65 oil. x.com
Greenfire Resources is cheap, has growth ahead of it and will do more acquisitions. Per @NoonHillCapMgmt, it trades at about 4x 2027 adjusted EBITDA of C$470M at $70 WTI on a C$2.75B enterprise value, which hedges can lock in, and management believes it can double production. It trades at about 81k per flowing barrel versus Athabasca's 150k for similar production and growth. x.com
Epsilon Energy is uninteresting now because its natural gas windfall window has passed and its pivot to oil is poorly timed. It burned through reserves waiting for a gas recovery after prices fell in 2022, then made a mediocre acquisition and is plowing oil capex into a heavily backwardated curve. Its midstream asset is diluted, SG&A is bloated, and incentives and hedges are poor. Oil above $80 to lock in, stronger gas, organic reserve growth or a price of $5.50 or lower would change that. x.com
