Meta's Muse does not deserve a platform multiple until users show they trust it with repeat tasks, since a launch spike is not retention. Sora passed 12M downloads but had sub-8% day-30 retention, per Sensor Tower; no Muse cohort has reached day 30 yet. Meta says Muse conversations won't feed its ad systems, so economics rest on subscriptions and a hoped-for small transaction fee that must cover task costs, and commerce in Muse could even displace ad-driven discovery. x.com
Muse's real value for Meta is owning the purchase-decision layer, not transaction fees or subscriptions. A generous 10% of US e-commerce through Muse at a 2% fee is only about $2.7B, roughly 1% of Meta's $238B ad run-rate. Amazon ads and Google Search get paid for sitting between shopper and product, and Amazon blocking Muse 12 days after launch shows the stakes. A small advertising beat may not sustain Meta's stock after earnings if Muse cannot show durable use and paying customers to justify rising AI spending. Muse could monetize Meta's existing merchant base through subscriptions and more ad spend, but service costs and whether users keep paying remain unproven. Meta's hundreds-of-gigawatts compute ambition looks hard to justify against the revenue a much smaller build might support. If Anthropic can generate over $70B in annualized revenue on 3GW or less, including training, hundreds of gigawatts is not a serious figure. Meta's earnings offer little near-term upside because Muse user growth is mostly priced in and monetization remains vague. The market wants AI compute to turn into profit. Retention or paid-share commentary could help, but Zuckerberg is unlikely to provide it; SpaceX says Grokbot has 800K paid users, a high bar. Meta remains attractive long term. Meta's Muse market sizing may overstate adoption because it extrapolates from some of the most productivity-focused users on earth to consumers who enjoy browsing and may not want an assistant to replace discovery. More Meta third-party compute leases to support Muse could help CleanSpark convert its 885MW Texas letter of intent and exclusivity into signed leases. CleanSpark already has a 175MW, 20-year Meta lease at Sandersville. Meta raised its FY2026 capex floor to $135B, but its plans for third-party capacity and financing remain key. Meta's 3.5bn daily platform users offer unmatched distribution; 25% of 10mn Muse signups use it daily, with early retention twice Threads' initial rate. Muse is the best pure consumer agent today, and the odds of a rival surpassing it are low, though it is early and execution matters. The stock prices in little beyond Meta's core business. x.com
