AMD could see much more accelerator demand as OpenAI and Anthropic allegedly increase their orders by multiple gigawatts. Nvidia's only real edge over AMD may soon be its size and resources; Lisa Su is a master operator. x.com 

AMD is becoming impossible to ignore in the AI infrastructure race, though Nvidia still leads. Meta committed to deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs, with custom accelerators based on the MI450 architecture rolling out in H2 2026. AMD also signed a deal with France to expand AI infrastructure and education, and Bernstein raised its price target to $265 on strong server and HPC demand. x.com 

AMD risks missing large advance rack orders because Helios is still unproven at volume manufacturing. It looked credible on paper at July's Advancing AI, but this is AMD's first rack-scale system; meaningful volume is expected only in 2H27, two quarters past AMD's window. Hyperscalers order racks a year or two before seeing them, and custom inference chips are squeezing AMD from the other side. AMD and Nvidia both stand to gain from an AI chip market that AMD sizes at $1.4 trillion by 2030, growing 45% a year. Token use rose 158x in two years, and running models now takes 60% of compute, driven by agents, a shift AMD expects to be structural. AMD's Helios racks are in full production, Anthropic is locking in up to 2 GW and OpenAI up to 6 GW, and AMD says it is closing its software gap. AMD's accelerator partnerships are a weak signal of true demand because it gives customers huge chunks of ownership to secure purchases. Other examples look toothless for now. Single sourcing is a real problem, and AMD likely keeps its data-center accelerator program long term. But a distant second place is not protected: relative competitiveness matters, and an upstart could take share, though there is no evidence of that today. x.com  x.com 

Many neoclouds favor AMD, making it potentially the semiconductor to play. Helios still needs to mature into a complete rack-scale platform for AMD to become a true second AI platform, rather than just the No. 2 GPU vendor. x.com 

AMD is having a breakout year as hyperscalers spend more than $600 billion on infrastructure in 2026, about $450 billion of it on AI. Its CPU market share has climbed to 29.2%, and partnerships with OpenAI and Meta show it is no longer playing second fiddle to Nvidia. Its MI300 series is winning data-center workloads, and it is executing on its roadmap with a consistency that deserves respect. x.com 

AMD is priced as if it is winning the ecosystem war when it is fighting uphill, which makes it unattractive. Its chips now compete, but Nvidia built CUDA and the tooling everyone runs on, and switching means rebuilding that foundation, which almost nobody wants to do. AMD's realistic opportunity is newer data centers without that foundation, which is what has been happening. Yet nearly every sell-side firm rates it a buy at about 50x forward earnings. x.com
