It opened new North Italia, Flower Child, FRC and international locations, expects up to 26 new restaurants in 2026, bought back $19.2M of stock and pays a $0.30 quarterly dividend. The Cheesecake Factory at 25 times next-twelve-month earnings looks attractive as a short. Restaurant valuations can be highly cyclical, though past fast-casual names reached 55 times earnings with 20% growth. x.com x.comÂ
Toast is worth at least $40 because its proven vertical playbook leaves room to double its 20% share of US SMB and mid-market restaurants. It is expanding into food and beverage retail and abroad, and over half its locations adopted the Toast IQ AI assistant within four months. 2025 revenue rose 24% to $6.15B, ARR 26% to $2.05B, GAAP net income hit $342M and free cash flow $608M. Risks include competition, SMB exposure, lending credit risk and memory costs on hardware. x.comÂ
First Watch is growing with self-funded discipline while the market is on edge about the consumer. Q2 2026 same-restaurant sales rose 3.4%, a 6.9% two-year stack, both beating guidance and peers. It committed to funding future growth from organic cash generation at roughly 50 new stores a year. x.comÂ
The Cheesecake Factory now looks more like a momentum trade than a genuine long-term compounder, with its valuation hard to justify. The stock is up 118% this year after an updated app with a free slice of cheesecake lifted traffic and accelerated revenue growth from 4% to 7%, with quarterly revenue topping $1 billion for the first time. But its P/E has surged from 13 to 32 times, and 21 times earnings three years out is difficult to justify for a restaurant business. x.comÂ
Restaurant stocks, including Chipotle and Wingstop, are uninvestable right now, with too many better places for money. Most have slowing growth, rising costs and poor margins. Wingstop's growth and margins look better than most, but it is still not a buy. x.com x.comÂ
Jersey Mike's looks expensive relative to its remaining growth runway, with far cheaper opportunities elsewhere in restaurants, food and consumer. It trades at 25x EBITDA with a maturing store fleet and leverage above 4x, and most of the IPO proceeds go to cashing out its private-equity owner. The Cheesecake Factory looks expensive at 21x cash earnings and 19x next year's, when restaurant chains usually get 12x. That puts fair value around $51.40-$65.42, leaving the $114.33 price 75% above the high end. This is a valuation-level read only, not fundamental work. x.comÂ
Cava Group's valuation is hard to justify for a restaurant chain at 74x 2028 earnings, a multiple even Chipotle never reached during its hypergrowth phase. That holds even though, as @Brian_Stoffel_ notes, Cava's same-store sales rose about 10%, well ahead of its closest competition, with traffic up about 7%. x.comÂ
