Q3 adjusted earnings reached $10.8 billion versus $9.9 billion expected, as refining margins hit a record $42 a barrel; the three-month buyback rises from $3 billion to $5 billion. Oil-to-gold stands at 0.03 against a 75-plus-year upper range of 0.15; even a move to around 0.08 would mean oil rising 2-3 times against gold, gold falling 50%-66%, or both moving. Canadian Natural has decades of reserves and the industry's lowest decline rates, so it can generate cash even when oil prices tank. Occidental Petroleum is mispriced at about 8.4x trailing earnings and an 8.7% free cash flow yield during an oil shock. Eight times earnings in an oil shock is not a valuation but a clerical error with a ticker symbol.
