Opendoor could make a nice short-term swing trade on retail hype if it breaks its downtrend, though its long-term fundamentals are unconvincing. Retail speculators may pour back in once it moves, and some may buy it by mistake around the OpenAI IPO, as happened with Virgin Galactic before SpaceX's IPO. The labor-shortage case for robots is easy, but BOTZ and ROBO are the wrong way to own it, while humanoid pure plays KOID and HUMN hold it directly. Rich countries are running out of workers, so demand is a demographic fact, and the market is forecast to grow from $153B to $365B by 2030 on that alone. It is far too early to invest in robotics, and ETFs such as BOTZ and ROBO are marketing wrappers full of legacy industrial firms and unprofitable startups. Teradyne's robotics segment brought in only $89M and cut 400 jobs, while ABB is spinning off its 12%-margin robotics unit. Humanoids still cost over $200k versus the $50-75k needed for mass use, a level projected for 2050. US humanoid-robot parts makers look set to be repriced because the US has no listed pure-play humanoid company while China races ahead and Washington moves to restrict foreign robots, as with solar and photonics. China's Unitree listed at $9 billion, 8,000 times oversubscribed. CCXI, the Agility Robotics merger vehicle, has $300M+ booked; Vishay Precision makes force sensing; Ouster makes lidar; Ambarella makes edge vision chips. CCXI, the only public humanoid proxy, won't stay available near $12 a share for long after Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5. The robot carries a 50 lb payload, about 40% more than Digit 4, runs 90 minutes on a 9-minute charge for 20+ productive hours a day, and is built to work safely alongside humans without cages.
