VCX should keep rising during Anthropic's IPO marketing on retail hype, with every update touting the deal as 100x oversubscribed and indicated to open far above its initial range. x.comÂ
Prepared Remarks
Equity Investor, Macro Commentary
Fundrise's VCX fund, which owns Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX, could squeeze higher as those private giants keep getting rerated almost every week. Its chart is flagging and getting very tight. x.comÂ
Anthropic's expected disclosure of very strong October ARR in its next S-1 is driving chip stocks higher this morning. Opus 5.5's successful Sept. 22 release should revive business after a likely disappointing September quarter amid stiffer OpenAI competition. Anthropic would include October ARR only if it helps its IPO. x.com x.comÂ
The Fundrise Innovation Fund looks wildly overpriced, trading at a premium to NAV never seen before. The listed fund offers access to private companies investors want but cannot otherwise own, and its price went parabolic in just four days. x.com x.comÂ
Alphabet looks primed for its next leg higher after consolidating sideways all year. A move to the top of its range would be about 30% in under three months, and Q3 earnings plus the Anthropic IPO are the likely catalysts to get it there. x.comÂ
AI-exposed semiconductors face near-term demand risk as Anthropic's revenue growth slows. Monthly additions fell from $10B to ~$2-3B, though October may improve and one-off headwinds contributed. The AI selloff is not irrational amid rates, debt, politics and supply-chain risks. Despite long-term optimism, a short-term bull case needs an Anthropic IPO or OpenAI fundraise, calmer rates and debt funding, blowout cloud earnings with EPS upgrades, and new applications reviving token monetization. … Show more
Fundrise Innovation Fund is a story rather than a position for playing Anthropic and the AI race. It trades at a 14 times premium to its net asset value, and its lockup expires in September. Owning what the AI race actually pays for, such as Nvidia, TSMC, Broadcom and Corning, is the better trade. x.comÂ
Amazon's 15-20% ownership of Anthropic gives the stock a nice tail reward heading into Anthropic's IPO next month. x.comÂ
An Anthropic IPO could re-rate Amazon through three channels at once: its equity stake, AWS and Trainium. Per the FT, investors are betting Anthropic could list as soon as October at a valuation discussed above $2T; Amazon is a major shareholder and AWS its main cloud and training partner, with their latest deal covering up to 5GW of compute. The pullback from near $287 toward $260-266, where the daily 21-day EMA and a double-bottom neckline sit, is a normal reset after a strong run. x.comÂ
The Fundrise Innovation Fund looks like a greater-fool trade: after rising 1,288% this month it trades at roughly 20x NAV, a 1,500-2,000% premium. Its holdings are weighted toward Anthropic, Databricks, OpenAI, Anduril and SpaceX, so buying it is like paying $34 trillion for SpaceX or $16 trillion for OpenAI. Shorting is impractical given its very low float and lack of options for hedging, but buying in means playing hot potato. x.comÂ
Rising frontier-model valuations are better played through Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle and neoclouds than through OpenAI or Anthropic IPOs at those prices. Anthropic grew Q2 revenue 1,400% year over year to $11.5B, implying over $46B of ARR, and is valued near $1T, while SpaceX trades at $1.86T on $23B of trailing revenue. Amazon and Microsoft would likely benefit even more, it could help mark a bottom for Oracle, and neoclouds Nebius, CoreWeave and IREN stand to gain too. x.comÂ
