Applied Optoelectronics looks expensive at about 40x 2027 earnings, still trading around $175 as @citrini notes. x.com

Applied Optoelectronics' durability beyond the pluggable cycle is in doubt: instead of staying euphoric on pluggable growth, the market is already asking what comes next. It still has a low starting valuation and accelerating fundamentals, but longer-term durability is missing, and the stock failed to bounce hard after a sharp drawdown. x.com
Applied Optoelectronics' roughly $12B valuation is absurd any way you look at it, even after management raised its mid-2027 projection to $471M in monthly revenue. It doesn't hold up on 2027 revenue, let alone earnings or the margin compression co-packaged optics would bring. Management will keep overpromising and underdelivering, could face legal trouble over what looks like a pump and dump, and has been in such trouble before; its own employees deride the company. x.com x.com x.com
Applied Optoelectronics' possible 2028 revenue makes even a 100% takeover premium too small if it delivers on 2027-28 expectations. Revenue of $6-8B in calendar 2028 at an illustrative 8x multiple would imply about $56B in market value, versus $7B today. That is the upside worth holding out for. x.com
Applied Optoelectronics is in the right place at the right time but isn't a high-quality business; it mainly serves as spillover capacity when Lumentum, Coherent and Marvell can't meet demand, so why own it over Marvell? Management also draws terrible Glassdoor reviews, 1.7 of 5 stars, 1% CEO approval and 7% recommending it across 124 reviews, pointing to high turnover and operating risk. The tone of its earnings call was also off-putting. x.com x.com x.com
Applied Optoelectronics' future earnings are not guaranteed, so its elevated price is highly susceptible to a drawdown that could create a far better buying opportunity by the end of next year. Capex can be cut, public and political pushback can delay data centers, and new data centers may fail to secure financing, any of which would cut projections. @RatWasteCapital counters that at $90 the stock trades at about 6x fiscal 2028 EPS if a $5.6B run rate holds. x.com x.com
Applied Optoelectronics' projected $5.65 billion in 2027 revenue against a $6 billion market cap drives its appeal. It may be the best opportunity in the market right now. x.com
Applied Optoelectronics' rally was momentum-driven, not evidence of a revolutionary company, and the market is finally figuring that out. The company cannot be blamed for raking in money during a once-in-a-blue-moon rally. x.com
Applied Optoelectronics is now an execution story with almost no room for error, not a demand story. Its ~$1.1B 2026 target needs Q4 revenue near $484M, up 78% on Q3 guidance, and 2026 operating profit looks closer to $59M than the $140M+ target management didn't repeat. Q2's profit came from a tax benefit. Shares are up 43.7% y/y on ATM sales, DSP and TIA shortages cap 1.6T, and the top 10 customers are 99% of revenue. Q4 near $380-400M would push the whole 2027 model out. x.com
Unusual call buying in Applied Optoelectronics is starting to make sense with shares at $81.50. The New Money App reported $80,000 of $99 calls expiring November 6, 2026, and $290,000 of $340 calls expiring January 21, 2028. x.com
Applied Optoelectronics is diluting shareholders with a $600M offering, which sent the stock down 9% after hours. Management likes to burn shareholders, so staying away for now. x.com x.com x.com
