Japanese materials and component suppliers will inevitably cede share to China because they are too cautious about expanding capacity. Sinocera said its key raw materials for high-end MLCCs passed qualification at some customers; those customers may keep using Chinese suppliers through a downcycle, increasing pressure on Japanese firms. Taiwanese stocks are more attractive than Japanese materials and components plays; unlike Chinese firms, Taiwanese companies expand capacity and return capital. … Show more
Murata, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Taiyo Yuden, Yageo and TDK look priced too hot even though MLCC fundamentals are booming. Taiyo Yuden cautioned that with 30-week lead times, ODMs are buffering inventory and part of the order book is panic buying. Samsung Electro-Mechanics' CFO said low-to-mid tier margins could face pressure in 18-24 months as Chinese rivals expand. Morgan Stanley and Citi analysts warned that at forward P/Es above 40x, any late-2026 capex slowdown could hit multiples hard. … Show more
Murata, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Taiyo Yuden benefit from a narrow shortage of the high-capacitance, low-inductance MLCCs AI accelerators need, even as commodity capacitor pricing stays soft. MLCC content per rack rises from about $1,530 in GB300 to $4,320 in VR200. Taiyo Yuden's book-to-bill is about 1.7x, Murata's high-end utilization about 95%, and SEMCO raised prices 30%. Murata has the strongest position, SEMCO the clearest earnings conversion, Taiyo Yuden the cleanest exposure. x.com … Show more
Taiyo Yuden has pricing power in a tightening MLCC market it has yet to use. Murata's 1.27 book-to-bill tops the 1.25 seen before the 2018 capacitor crisis, the big three, holding 77% of high-end capacity, run at 90-95% utilization, and expansions won't ship meaningfully until late 2027, while AI server MLCC demand may rise from 72.6 billion units to 136.7 billion next year. Its April hikes of 6-13% skipped high-cap AI grades. A 16% holder's forced cut to 4.41% likely ends activist pressure. … Show more
Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Taiyo Yuden look good again as MLCC supply tightens. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is expected to announce production cuts for certain SKUs at a July 3 supplier meeting as capacity shifts to server-grade parts, and Taiyo Yuden is set to raise prices 50-150% on certain high-capacitance consumer SKUs. Consumer supply gets tighter while server MLCC capacity is prioritized. x.com
AI servers are restructuring MLCC demand, giving Yageo and Murata pricing power and better profitability from a richer high-end mix. Per Korean media, AI servers need five to 13 times more high-capacitance MLCCs than conventional servers, pushing high-end lead times to five to over 10 months while standard parts sit at 14-18 weeks. Murata's high-capacitance lead times reached 30 weeks in July. New capacity has slipped into 2027, and makers are raising prices and signing long-term deals. x.com
MLCCs and power semiconductors are an overlooked picks-and-shovels play on the still-early AI infrastructure buildout. MLCC demand from AI servers is projected to grow 5x by 2027, with lead times jumping from about 2 weeks to 36 weeks. A move to 800V DC could lift power-semiconductor content from about $9.5K toward $115K per rack. x.com
Taiyo Yuden is valuable to global AI supply chains as one of the largest MLCC manufacturers, a bottleneck component. Leopold Aschenbrenner's Situational Awareness has built a stake, disclosed at 5.99% with an average cost near ¥17,446 per share as of June 29, against a price around ¥9,797, and since reported at 11.62%. x.com x.com
Murata is the pick for the AI-grade MLCC bottleneck, since that spec runs through a handful of Japanese suppliers. Lead times are extended, a price hike is already in motion and each AI rack needs tens of thousands of these capacitors. Per SemiAnalysis, AI server MLCC demand grows about 5x by 2027 while new production lines take two years to build. x.com
Vishay is a bet on the whole passive and discrete component cycle tightening, and its order books look better than its chart, 52% off its June peak. Five of six segments booked orders above 1.3 times shipments, and capacitor revenue rose 26.7% on volume and pricing. It is a weak direct play on Morgan Stanley's 166% jump in MLCC content per Vera Rubin rack, as its MLCCs skew to high-voltage and auto parts. MOSFETs drag; if book-to-bill falls toward 1, June was the cycle peak. x.com
