Zcash is positioning ahead of quantum threats by targeting quantum-resistant wallet signatures for January 2027. The planned protection would address a major future security challenge for crypto; it is not live yet. x.comÂ

Institutional competition for Zcash exposure is heating up fast. The Winklevoss group has filed for a spot Zcash ETF under the ticker WINK, with Gemini custody and interest in buying up to $100 million of shares, while Grayscale's product nears $890M in assets and Bitwise has also filed. Zcash surged from around $200 to over $1,300 this year as institutional interest in the privacy-focused asset accelerated. x.comÂ
Zcash still has a path to $10,000 as its developers address cryptanalysis fears: Zakura has outlined quantum-safe, unlinkable rotating transparent addresses, and the transparent side is expected to be resistant by January. This builds on years of planning, not a response devised from scratch overnight. x.com x.comÂ
Zcash's privacy is its lasting edge because bank accounts may never become private, while quantum resistance should become a requirement for all survivors. Its public transactions make institutional integration easier than Monero's, giving it a larger potential market. Monero has value and is probably oversold, though FCMP++ has no clear timeline. Institutions' comfort with Zcash could fade if governments clamp down. x.com x.com x.com x.com x.com x.comÂ
Zcash's privacy makes critical bugs undetectable, so a flaw could let someone print unlimited ZEC and dump it unnoticed. Two critical infinite-mint bugs have now been found, possibly more, and everyone is hunting for them with AI; unlike transparent Bitcoin, such inflation cannot be automatically detected. Regulation also leaves no viable path to adoption, since no AML-compliant company can accept it. x.com x.com x.com x.com x.comÂ
ZEC remains worth backing through uncertain AI and quantum threats because its development team has shown the ability to ship quickly enough to adapt as threats emerge; forecasting which cryptographic technology will hold up over medium to long horizons is difficult. x.comÂ
Bitcoin's quantum risk is manageable because its network could probably be upgraded in about 90 days when quantum technology is eventually created. There is no real substantive threat to the network, and upgrading now would increase the attack layer. x.comÂ
Zcash's shrinking PoW security budget makes a full move to PoS essential to its survival. Fees cover only 0.01% of its mining subsidy; miners have incentives to resist, while centralized governance lacks a workable stakeholder vote. Crosslink improves on PoW but keeps both systems' drawbacks; it could serve as a political bridge to full PoS and stakeholder governance. A "ZEC Classic" split is now probable depending on how factions act, and a vote may be too late to prevent it. x.com x.com x.comÂ
Bitcoin's inability to reverse hacks makes decentralization a weakness as AI threats outpace security. Tether halted $1.8B from the Binance hack, showing the value of intervention; exploits take minutes, patches days or weeks. AI may be a greater threat to crypto than quantum, which Bitcoin has made effectively no progress on. New highs look increasingly distant without a Core-governed quantum-proof roadmap; quantum alone leaves today's elliptic curves under five years. x.comÂ
The Shielded Bitcoin paper is no competitor to Zcash, which keeps its lead in base-layer privacy. The paper relies on a trusted setup, lacks consensus enforcement and trustless light clients, leaves its bridge unspecified and pays Bitcoin L1 fees. Zcash has a shielded pool of more than $7B with millions of transactions to hide in, about 10 years in production, and the wallets, audits and hardware support; privacy works best when built into the base layer. x.comÂ
Low liquidity could cause sharp downside wicks in altcoins over the coming days. Uniswap at $3-6 and Zcash near $800 are levels of interest for bids. Trader_XO sees Zcash near $800, a call that holds here too; the level is expected before year-end. x.com x.com x.comÂ
LayerZero's post-quantum security research adds to the case for looking beyond ZRO as just a bridge token. Aerie aims to protect blockchains from future quantum attacks without slowing them severely; early tests ran on a MacBook without a GPU. It remains research, not a live upgrade. x.comÂ
