Microsoft is a bigger near-term competitive threat to UiPath than Claude, a point that gets overlooked. Claude is the best standalone model, but large enterprises often block it over security, compliance and data governance, while Microsoft's Copilot is already embedded in daily tools and getting good enough. UiPath is losing its window: its regulatory and governance moat still gives it an edge with enterprises that avoid Anthropic over security concerns, but it is not expanding fast enough to capitalize. Microsoft will win enterprise AI because large companies will run models through Copilot for security reasons. A 40,000-seat bank has zero chance of using Claude outside Copilot, since tools must be Microsoft-approved, and many enterprises work that way. All models are interchangeable in Copilot, and while it is still much weaker than Claude, it is maybe only 6-7 months behind in usefulness, versus literally unusable four months ago. UiPath may carry the highest business-model risk of any SaaS company because LLM agents with computer use compete directly with its robotic process automation. Rivals include Anthropic and OpenAI themselves. Its base is sticky for now, with 97% gross retention, regulated large-enterprise customers and long contracts, giving it time to sell AI tools. Microsoft looks set to break out again, this time on agents after its last breakout came from the cloud rerating. Nadella is making Copilot the operating system for work, unifying chat, coding and long-running agents in one entry point instead of scattering them across Studio, Cowork and GitHub Copilot, to defend against OpenAI and Anthropic selling all-in-one apps to its core enterprise customers. Microsoft is neither a loser nor overvalued, and the bear case misreads it. @jmartinprin argues capex up to 30% of revenue warrants a below-market multiple and that Microsoft ex-Azure is declining. But that business is not declining, and Azure should not be excluded. A real bear case must show AI labs' model and harness integration can beat Office and Copilot incumbency, with productivity gains big enough to override enterprise legal, regulatory and compliance procurement. x.comÂ
UiPath will be among the AI winners because AI agents cannot replace everything. Companies still need deterministic automation that is reliable, controllable and free of constant token consumption, and UiPath connects that world with agentic AI. Microsoft's Copilot could win in enterprise AI long term because it runs natively in Microsoft 365, where enterprise work already happens, with only about 30 million of some 450 million paid M365 seats on it so far. Microsoft guided above consensus, and Azure growth improved from 39% to 43%, with 45% guided. Value is shifting from models to infrastructure like public clouds.
