In Q3 2026, automotive revenue fell 3% year over year and energy revenue fell 16%; operating margin was 2.6%, and revenue missed expectations. These numbers are pathetic even for a mature business and embarrassing for a growth darling. Q3 revenue was flat as auto sales slipped and regulatory credits collapsed; operating expenses rose 39%, operating income fell 56%, and EPS dropped from $0.43 to $0.24. Tesla's latest reveal has no financial viability for shareholders yet because anything like it may not reach roads before 2035. Like Optimus in 2021, it is cool but not viable yet. Tesla's low-cost, high-margin Cybercabs make its Robotaxi opportunity bigger than investors appreciate. ARK estimates each costs about $30K to make and generates $93K a year at roughly 68% gross margin; Tesla is not bullish enough in investors' eyes. Texas registrations show 1,080 Teslas, including 573 Cybercabs, versus 1,207 Waymos; these are registrations, not active rides. Tesla's Cybercab network could eventually become largely self-running because Optimus may build and service cars while the cars drive and charge themselves. Texas registrations now show 544 Cybercabs versus 507 Model Ys; Tesla added 737 robotaxis since September 1 versus Waymo's 471. Cybercab is designed for wireless charging, though people still clean the cars. Musk says Optimus and Cybercab will account for most of Tesla's value. x.com  x.com 

Tesla's Cybercab likely faces a one-to-two-year certification delay, as NHTSA has ordered Tesla to explain by September 30 how it self-certified the robotaxis deployed in Austin, per @Sam_Badawi. That is how long certification took Zoox, and Cruise's Origin took so long that GM gave up. Launching publicly was a dumb strategy given FSD's terrible safety record and lack of public data. x.com
