FOCI Fiber Optic Communications could sit at the center of Nvidia's co-packaged optics supply chain as AI data centers move from pluggable fiber to CPO in 2026. It has built fiber array units with TSMC for over three years, has 1.6T and 3.2T specs in the pipeline, and its proprietary ReLFACon technology removes the need for separate transceivers. FOCI's CPO coupling opportunity faces a future share test because Largan plans to ship qualified fiber arrays during FOCI's 2027-28 ramp. For now, both call arrays and FAUs short, so this reads as added capacity, not lost share. FOCI began booking small FAU revenue at 3.2T and above in Q3; most of its growth is still older business. Largan's line is due by end-Q2 2027. If CPO switches ship in volume and FOCI's monthly revenue stays flat into 1H27, share becomes the question. x.com  x.com 

Putting CPO optical engines in the interposer should make TSMC the leader at that packaging task. The OCI-MSA diagram shows an optical engine mounted on a high-density interposer; GlobalFoundries has a modest agreement in the area, but should not be expected to earn the same profit. x.com 

FormFactor's production-ready wafer-level CPO probe gives it a test opportunity at a major foundry, but that business depends on one customer. CEO Mike Slessor says the CPO piece flows through a foundry worth 10% of sales; he did not name it, though an analyst named TSMC. Triton tests photonic wafers before stacking; post-stack test remains difficult. Fiber and connectors account for almost 30% of co-packaged optics costs, enlarging Corning's opportunity in optical scale-up. Fiber and InP lasers are the bottlenecks in this reading of CPO; @carrioresearch reports that Corning supplied high-density arrays and connectors for Lightmatter's OCP trays. x.com 

FOCI is positioned for a coming fiber-array-unit bottleneck in co-packaged optics, where supply cannot meet demand. Per UDN, Largan Precision, FOCI and China's TFC have entered Nvidia's FAU supply chain; about 20,000 Spectrum-X systems shipped this year would need roughly 600k-700k FAUs, demand should reach several million units in 2027, and existing capacity cannot meet it. POET Technologies is uninvestable because its management has lost the trust of the big players. In April its CFO leaked information that led to the cancellation of Celestial AI and Marvell contracts. Being early in interposers and packaging does not make it a co-packaged optics winner, as others will catch up. Its TFLN partner QCI trails Hyperlight and is stuck on a 6-inch line, with no 8-inch wafer demo yet to show it can scale. x.com  x.com 

Himax offers high-upside optionality on microLED-based co-packaged optics, alongside its micro-lens arrays that route light into fiber. The microLED approach uses hundreds or thousands of simple low-speed lanes, removing high-speed SerDes, DSP and the InP laser and cutting energy below 1 pJ/bit. Himax's display-driver know-how maps unusually well onto it. It is pre-revenue, short-reach only and debated, but at ~10x EV/gross profit, current levels look reasonable for those who see a path for CPO. … Show more

Pluggable optics have a new scaling path alongside CPO and NPO, supporting demand for light from Lumentum, Coherent and Applied Optoelectronics. Nvidia and Cisco's planned USFP packs 16 full-duplex 400G/lane connections into an OSFP-sized footprint, targeting four times the bandwidth density of 200G/lane modules while retaining replaceability. Himax is a core bottleneck in TSMC's COUPE co-packaged optics ecosystem, with first commercial CPO shipments due in H2 2026 as a short validation horizon. FOCI assembles fiber units but cannot ship without Himax's optical substrates. Himax owns wafer-level optics lines already paid for by a decade of AR spending, so even small optics sales would lift profits sharply and force a re-rating.
