Public defense stocks look mispriced because demand and private valuations are rising while their shares fall 20%. Anduril raised $5 billion at $61 billion, about 28x sales, while Ondas trades near 5x with a comparable counter-drone stack. The five primes' backlog rose 23.7% to $1.36 trillion, and the Pentagon's FY2027 request has $75 billion for drones and counter-drone tech. AeroVironment's latest print was solid but not full confirmation that profitability is on track. Revenue and EPS beat, funded backlog reached $1.5B and AxS grew 21%, validating demand, but SCDE fell 21% and EBITDA declined year over year. Government spending is defense's version of AI hyperscaler capex but more dependable, and the market isn't pricing it in. Global defense is seen at $3T+ for 2027 versus about $1T of hyperscaler capex, and the Pentagon seeks $80B in wartime spending on top of a $1.5T budget. AeroVironment is expensive against its earnings at 45x, versus the 24x aerospace and defense suppliers usually get. Fair value sits at $93.02 to $118.39, or 24x next year's $4.40 EPS give or take 12%, leaving the $196.02 price 66% above the high end, and even that leans on forward earnings 47% above trailing. AeroVironment is a long-term buy on weakness because its counter-drone and directed-energy position keeps strengthening while the chart stays depressed. It won a $464.8M US Army LOCUST contract, its first US production contract for high-energy lasers, plus a >$50M international order, and is one of four systems in the US counter-drone directed-energy pilot ahead of a December shoot-off. Ondas's share-funded acquisitions look very risky without a strong core business to make them work. It has raised $1.8B selling shares, yet roughly $1.4B sits in cash and short-term investments. Drone makers AeroVironment, Kratos and Ondas look set for another strong run after the Trump administration imposed a 100% tariff on foreign-made drones, per @unusual_whales citing the NYT. Defense names including Lockheed Martin, RTX and General Dynamics are easy buys now ahead of a golden era in 2027-2028.
