Firefly Aerospace's launch vehicle is unreliable and plagued with delays. Firefly was slated to launch the Jackal in the US military space exercise covered by @arstechnica but failed to do so, and SpaceX had to fill in. x.comÂ

Rocket Lab beats Firefly Aerospace by every metric, so a cheaper valuation does not make Firefly the better space bet, as @PhotonBull argues. Firefly's Alpha has flown seven times with four full or partial failures, versus 85 Electron flights with five failures, and its lunar landing relied on Rocket Lab software and solar power. Rocket Lab also has a space systems business that is 70% of revenue, is the world's largest space solar cell maker and supports over $1.5B of SDA contracts. x.comÂ
Rocket Lab's rapid-response launches matter more as orbital threats grow, and unbid military missions expose a launch crunch. LeoLabs said Russia's Cosmos 2612 came within about 500 meters of ICEYE-X36. In Victus Haze, Rocket Lab built the Puma target and launched it on Electron with 16 hours 42 minutes' notice. Per Politico, SpaceX declined to bid on three Space Force launches and nobody else bid. Rocket Lab is building a facility to speed Electron and HASTE static-fire testing. x.com x.com … Show more
Rocket Lab is unlikely to fail because a space company with a pedigree of successful launches has never gone under. Many space ventures have gone bankrupt, but space engineering is so tough that a proven launcher effectively gets a government put. That answers the claim, relayed by @RealMattMoney from @KrisPatel99, that Rocket Lab will burn to the ground and won't be profitable for 5-10 years. x.comÂ
Firefly Aerospace likely has pretty good risk/reward here because successful execution could reward investors. It remains very unproven in a space industry with zero margin for error, so that upside depends on execution. x.comÂ
SpaceX's competitive threat makes AST SpaceMobile less attractive at these levels than SpaceX and Rocket Lab. AST SpaceMobile's weekly chart shows a downtrend and strong outflows, though the stock is near marked support. x.comÂ
The real moat in space is cadence and capacity, not technical superiority. Proving something works is different from building and launching it reliably at scale, and Rocket Lab and SpaceX understand what it takes to scale. x.comÂ
SpaceX, Rocket Lab and, to a lesser degree, Firefly Aerospace stand to benefit from the new US National Space Transportation Policy. Per the announcement, US orbital launches rose from 19 in 2013 to 178 in 2025, and the policy aims to enable 1,000 launches and reentries on American soil by 2030 while modernizing launch infrastructure dating to the 1960s. x.comÂ
Rocket Lab's growing Space Systems business positions it to provide more than launches for the space economy. It generated $189.5M in Q2, 81% of revenue; if its pending Iridium acquisition closes, it would gain a global satellite communications network. At about $51, this is one of the most compelling long-term opportunities in the space sector over 3-5 years, provided it keeps executing. Neutron's launch has slipped to 2027, and execution risks remain. x.com x.com x.comÂ
Rocket Lab's Neutron delay looks like a manufacturing issue, not a flawed design. Rocket Lab says it identified and mitigated dome voids, but this second setback delays launch revenue; first flight could slip to mid-2027 or later if testing finds more issues. Space Systems is about 81% of revenue and backlog is around $2.4B, sustaining the business as Neutron develops. Rocket Lab could still become a megacap over the next decade. x.comÂ
Firefly Aerospace's sell-off looks overdone after a 56% drop last month, and returning space momentum could lift it further. Rocket Lab's acquisition of Iridium and AST SpaceMobile appearing to win Japan's $1 billion J-LEO award have revived the sector, though Firefly is probably not as good as either. x.comÂ
Rocket Lab, AST SpaceMobile, Firefly, Intuitive Machines, Redwire and SpaceX are too risky to buy at today's valuations, given the potential for a cascade decline. Index-inclusion buying may keep SpaceX and sympathy names bid for months, but in another growth bear market like 2021's aftermath they could fall hard and recover slowly even if the businesses execute, and SpaceX may eventually crash the party. They remain liked, just not worth adding; Northrop Grumman is the preferred space stock. … Show more
