TSMC's capex outlook signals a durable equipment upcycle favoring process-equipment makers Lam Research, Applied Materials and Ichor over process-control specialist KLA. Management said capex over the next three years will be significantly higher than the past few, moving 2027 capex estimates from about $61B to the mid-$70B range. TSMC is prioritizing 3nm de-bottlenecking over 2nm additions, and that more mature node needs less of the leading-edge inspection where KLA is strongest. x.com
KLA gains as more complex AI chips require more inspection before they ship. 3D stacking, advanced packaging and 2nm processes multiply checks in a market KLA says it owns almost entirely. Revenue rose 29% and EPS 39%; the next-quarter revenue guide of $4.7bn exceeds the $4.54bn expected, showing the promised second-half acceleration. Overweight, $300 target. x.com x.com
KLA is the one semiconductor capital equipment maker that does not materially benefit as memory makers such as Micron ramp up capex. x.com
Sandisk's fast-growing data-center revenue strengthens its case among memory names with upside. Data-center revenue rose 61% quarter over quarter; revenue of $11.03B, adjusted EPS of $49.51 and adjusted gross margin of 85.1% all exceeded estimates. For upside among Micron, Sandisk and Kioxia, Micron ranks first, then Sandisk, then Kioxia, until further guidance. x.com x.com
Lam Research's record results suggest the equipment cycle is not ending despite its stock selloff. Revenue reached $8.22B, up 54% year over year and over 20% sequentially, while EPS rose 75%; ASML and TSMC also report customers needing more tools. Overweight with a $355 target and 35% upside, but the selloff is a gift only if Lam guides December higher. x.com x.com
Micron, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix look very cheap if their long-term agreements do not impose overly conservative price ceilings. Greater clarity on those pricing terms could send memory stocks up 30% in a single day. x.com
Micron's surging memory revenue points to a supercycle. Its segment and NAND revenue charts show a sharp recent acceleration, while the stock tests its rising 30-week average. x.com
The semiconductor market should reach $1.6 trillion by 2030, per McKinsey, lifting leaders across the chip stack. Nvidia holds over 80% of the AI chip market and AMD is the only other AI chipmaker hyperscalers deploy at scale; TSMC is the factory AI can't function without; ASML monopolizes advanced lithography; SK hynix supplies over 60% of HBM and Micron is sold out through 2026; Broadcom, Marvell, Credo and Astera Labs connect GPUs and build custom AI silicon. x.com x.com x.com x.com x.com
The OpenAI ecosystem is lifting a broad supply chain, from Microsoft's $300B and Oracle's $200B backlogs to Nvidia and AMD, whose MI450 has a massive customer. Micron trades at 7x earnings that are still rising, Korean memory is fully sold out and TSMC is king. ASML has no capacity for the next 12 months, Lam is the best memory supplier and KLA the best equipment maker, while Applied Materials depends on China returning given 40% exposure. Optical, chemical and test suppliers also gain. x.com
US semiconductor equipment makers are the sturdiest picks-and-shovels play, because any industry expansion needs equipment first, giving them a place in every bull market. In the latest US tech selloff, chip and optical stocks fell broadly, yet equipment names jumped double digits at the open and nearly all closed higher, a clear vote by investors. The group spans Applied Materials, Lam, KLA, MKS, Entegris, Onto, Nova and ACM Research, with Axcelis, Ultra Clean and Veeco strongest. x.com
