T1 Energy is building toward US solar cell production with its G2 plant in Texas. The $425M first phase is underway, the full $850M project should create about 1,800 jobs, and G2 should be producing solar cells by year-end. Tesla scaling its own solar production with SpaceX is not a competitive worry: it reflects a broader trend toward localized manufacturing and confirms the solar market will be big enough for other players. BYD looks like the safer value play because its vehicle sales and revenue exceed Tesla's while its valuation is much lower. The comparison puts BYD at about $111 billion of sales and market cap, versus Tesla's $94.8 billion sales and $1.45 trillion cap; BYD delivered 2.26 million battery EVs against Tesla's 1.64 million in 2025. A polysilicon tariff rewards whoever sources it domestically; a price floor rewards whoever sells it. First Solar wins either way because its cadmium-telluride thin film uses no polysilicon, the cleanest hedge though now consensus. Corning owns Hemlock, the pick and shovel a floor directly subsidizes. T1 Energy is hedged by domestic Hemlock pricing but not immune: its 2026 bridge year runs on imported cells while G2 Austin ramps, and Section 232 could tax them during its capex crunch. x.com 

First Solar has lost its appeal because of how its bookings have been trending, while power names Vistra and Talen look cheap. x.com 

T1 Energy's Q2 results answered a short report that had questioned its Q1 cell sourcing. Revenue of $250M beat estimates by $47M, adjusted EBITDA turned positive, and G1 Dallas production was guided to the high end of 3.1-4.2 GW. Clearway signed a 641 MW offtake using domestic cells from the G2 Austin plant that starts up in Q1 2027, and Section 232 polysilicon tariffs take effect in December. It remains the most speculative name on the list, 63% off its high. x.com 

The company now trading under SPWR is a buy after the ticker's second bankruptcy: it is a completely different company, still with poor leadership, that Tesla will buy as it quietly moves back into solar. It has a $90M market cap, $230M enterprise value and $270M of assets. x.com 

First Solar looks overlooked, trading near a 2.5-year low relative to the solar sector it leads while that sector sits near a multi-year high. With oil this elevated, a top-quality solar name like First Solar should catch a bid, and its chart shows a potential mini inverse head-and-shoulders bottom. x.com 

Canadian Solar has no thesis without FEOC and 45X compliance, because those rules gate every leg of its business, battery storage included. Storage faces the strictest FEOC thresholds, Canadian Solar makes batteries in China and its anode material is under a US AD/CVD case, so its Kentucky battery plant is a compliance effort, not a hedge. US non-Chinese wafer supply is tiny and committed, with Corning's output going to T1 Energy, Suniva and Heliene; its own would take years and billions. x.com 

China's solar bottom will be set by which manufacturers survive, not by price, and the clean-out has begun. Capacity of 1,200GW is double the 580GW of demand, and chain-wide gross margins are still negative: the top five lost 28 billion yuan in a year and over 50 firms went bankrupt. Effective capacity is shrinking, and ending export tax rebates, a stockpiling platform and leader-led M&A should speed the clean-out, with Tongwei absorbing peers and LONGi betting everything on BC. x.com  x.com
