Rocket Lab, Redwire and Viasat now hold optionality on six years of Space Force test-range orders. All three were named among 15 companies on a $981 million Space Systems Command contract through 2032, with no funds obligated at award; they must compete for each order. Days earlier Rocket Lab won $266 million for 12 suborbital launches, its largest launch contract. Space stocks such as Redwire and Rocket Lab are still underappreciated as major institutions build serious positions. Rocket Lab's defense contracts and backlog position it to benefit from national-security spending. Its $2.36B backlog includes over 100 booked launches, with an $816M SDA satellite deal and a $266M Space Force HASTE deal for hypersonic testing. Despite the Neutron delay, its $36B valuation offers one of the space sector's best risk-reward setups: exposure to the same defense and space-infrastructure trend as SpaceX at a fraction of its valuation. Space and defense stocks such as Rocket Lab, Kratos and AeroVironment warrant skepticism after a big run because the sector doesn't generate profits the way other sectors do. Rocket Lab's growing Space Systems business positions it to provide more than launches for the space economy. It generated $189.5M in Q2, 81% of revenue; if its pending Iridium acquisition closes, it would gain a global satellite communications network. At about $51, this is one of the most compelling long-term opportunities in the space sector over 3-5 years, provided it keeps executing. Q2 revenue hit a record $234 million, up 62% year over year, and backlog rose 137% to an all-time high of $2.36 billion. It won a $397 million Space Force SB-AMTI contract to build and launch Flatellites on Neutron and joined the $981 million NITE-STAR contract ceiling, showing it is a vertically integrated space company, not just a launch provider. x.comÂ
Redwire is now less attractive because of a combination of macro conditions, drone market dynamics, management and the opportunity cost versus other ideas. Its revenues are also just too lumpy, which outweighs the case that the space business on its own remains strong. x.com x.com x.comÂ
Rocket Lab's rapid-response launches matter more as orbital threats grow, and unbid military missions expose a launch crunch. LeoLabs said Russia's Cosmos 2612 came within about 500 meters of ICEYE-X36. In Victus Haze, Rocket Lab built the Puma target and launched it on Electron with 16 hours 42 minutes' notice. Voyager Technologies looks particularly interesting as a picks-and-shovels supplier to the space economy. At a $1.5B market cap, it builds propulsion, missile defense, spacecraft electronics, space intelligence and agentic AI, stations, lunar infrastructure and orbital computing; it partners with Palantir and Anduril. Rocket Lab, AST SpaceMobile and Voyager could be like Apple, Microsoft and Intel in the 1980s: their value in two decades matters more than in two years. x.comÂ

Its space-beta monopoly has ended with SpaceX's listing, and it needs to max out R&D to accelerate Neutron before its maiden flight.
